The Lockman Foundation is an interdenominational Christian organization dedicated to Bible translation and distribution. Founded in 1942 by F. Dewey Lockman and his wife Minna in La Habra, California, the foundation has become known for producing two major English Bible translations: the New American Standard Bible (NASB) and the Amplified Bible (AMP). The Lockman Foundation's mission is to create accurate and readable translations for the edification of the Church.

First published in 1971, the New American Standard Bible (NASB) was developed by The Lockman Foundation with the aim of creating a modern English translation that maintains high fidelity to the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. The NASB originated as an update to the American Standard Version of 1901, which itself was a revision of the King James Version.
The NASB translators worked directly with the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts, employing a formal equivalence (word-for-word) translation method. The translators followed a fourfold aim: to be true to the original texts, grammatically correct, understandable, and to give the Lord His proper place as presented in the Word of God. The NASB has gained a reputation as one of the most literally translated of modern English Bible versions, making it particularly valued by students, scholars, and those seeking a close reading of the original texts. It has been praised for its accuracy and has become a trusted resource for serious Bible study and teaching.
